Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a master's degree in English literature. Mitchell began her career as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976 she became a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). She joined NBC News Washington two years following that as general reporter. From 1981 onwards she started reporting from the White House. In 1988, she became the chief reporter for Congress. She was named the chief White House correspondent in 1992 and the chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News in 1994. Mitchell hosted and participated as a panelist at the TV program Meet the Press. She was on the panel of the 1988 presidential debates which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and, in 2004, she was awarded the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to the protection for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first reporter to report on White House stories for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's tenure in office from 1981 to 1988. Mitchell covered a range of noteworthy stories including arm control, budget tax reform, and the Iran-contra scandal. Mitchell went on numerous trips with President Reagan to meetings together with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world top leaders.
